The PDI-P – Indonesian Democracy Party-Struggle – is confident of
winning 30 percent of vote in the 2009 elections, according to the chair
of the party’s Elections Success Board, Thahjo Kumolo.
‘We of course want to increase our share of the vote, and our optimism
is based on the party’s efforts, in particular the efforts of the
younger members of the party.’
These calculations are based on retaining the support of voters who
voted for the party in the 2004 elections and gaining support from
first-time voters thanks to the efforts of the party’s youth wing,
Banteng Muda Indonesia and Taruna Merah Putih (TMP)
‘We will intensify our efforts by winning votes from first-time voters,
with the help of several special programmes for the youth..’ He also
said that the party will ensure a combination of candidates aged around
50 years old and those under 35 years old.’ TMP now has 300,00 members,
he said, adding that they are training as many as 500,000 members to win
victory for the party of Megawati. He also said that they will ensure a
combination of people of these age ranges at all levels
